Description

Designed to help all participants in this module to develop a very strong rhythmic technique, and developing techniques and ideas covered in RS1. This is achieved through singing and clapping various exercises, reading of rhythmic notation, studying odd and even polyrhythms, and the study of various techniques from Indian and Afro-Cuban music including various claves and multi-speed korvais

Learning Outcomes

1. Have a very strong overall rhythmic technique
2. Be able to sing bass lines to standard tunes while clapping different rhythms
3. Be able to recite Mukhtais and Korvais at the three speeds.
4. Be adept at rhythmic reading
5. Be able to reproduce given polyrhythms through singing and clapping simultaneously

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Skills that lead to more complete rhythmic awareness
Skills that lead to more complete rhythmic awareness will be demonstrated and information given on effective ways to practice these skills. Content will aim, through physical practice, to develop the rhythmic technique of participants through such techniques as: ° Singing a melody while clapping a fixed rhythmic pattern ° Reciting a Korvai at three different speeds ° Sight reading some rhythmic notation using many different subdivisions ° Singing the bass line to a standard song while clapping different rhythms ° Subdivision skills, ° Knowledge of Korvais at various speeds ° Rhythmic Displacement skills
