Description

This module focuses upon the biological basis of diseases that have significant global health burden (in developed and developing countries). The epidemiology,diagnosis and treatment of these diseases will be examined and factors such as lifestyle and genetic predispositions will be considered. Recent progress in research and development of new diagnostics and therapeutics and the implications of such will be explored using the current literature.

Learning Outcomes

1. 1. Explain current theories of the biological basis of cancer, diabetes, vascular disorders, mental illness and immune mediated diseases.
2. 2 Discuss in detail the pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, diabetes, vascular disorders, mental illness and immune mediated diseases.
3. 3. Using current literature explore developments in diagnostics and treatments and contextualise their implications
