Description

This module provides an overview of ethical issues involved in health care and healthcare research to include the theoretical underpinnings informing research inquiry. Methods and approaches to planning and the execution of qualitative and quantitative research will be addressed. The student will be enabled to critically examine health care research studies that employ a range of methodologies. Key ethical principles involved in practice and ethical principles that inform the conduct of health care research will be explored.

2. Discuss principal research methods for healthcare studies
3. Critically analyses literature from healthcare research
4. Determine ethical concerns and responsibilities for advanced practice
5. Identification of a clear and concise area of interest within nursing practice for further consideration

Tutorial10Students will have the opportunity discuss their Research Article Critique and Theoretical Framework
Independent Study202Students will read, study their class notes and critique research articles and discuss a theoretical framework of their choice. The activities will be facilitated via synchronous and asynchronous methods of delivery (recorded webinars and blogs).

Indicative content and learning activities
Theoretical and conceptual frameworks underpinning health care research. Knowledge of research design: qualitative and quantitative. Formulate a research questions using the PICO framework Critical appraisal of health care research from a variety of paradigms. Application of ethical principles as applied to research. Identify an area of interest within nursing practice for further consideration.
