Description

The principal objectives of this module are two-fold. Firstly, it aims to enhance students’ understanding of the role of accounting and business in organisations and society. Secondly, the module seeks to prepare students to progress effectively to the workplace by developing further their professional skills (oral communication skills, team-working skills, analytical skills, reflective skills etc) and by enhancing their understanding of expected workplace behaviours and related matters.

2. Appreciate the role/contribution of professional accountants in different types of organisations and contexts – locally and globally
3. Demonstrate effective oral communication skills

Indicative Content and Learning Activities

Presentation skills workshops
Students will participate in a series of communication skills workshops in order to develop their communication & presentation skills. Students will be required to prepare and present a number of group presentations.

Case study workshops
Students will engage in a number of multi-discipline case study workshops to develop their technical and analytical competencies and also professional writing skills. The case studies embrace issues from across a range of accounting and business areas that are relevant to prospective professional accountants and they will require students to prepare analytical reports that meet the highest standards in professional writing.

Guest lectures
A range of guest lecturers will discuss topical issues concerning accounting/accountant's role in organisations and society. Speakers will be drawn from across a variety of sectors (commercial, public, voluntary etc) and will share their career experiences as accountants.

Seminars: workplace matters - 2020 and beyond.
Students will participate in a number of seminars which will address topical workplace matters, e.g. equality, diversity and inclusion; effective team performance, global, multicultural workplaces etc
