Description This module provides a platform for showcasing trends in emerging media across the field of multimedia production. It observes and evaluates new, innovative, experimental and emerging works in domains of audio, acoustics, video, interactive media, physical computing, online media, image and moving image, and the Internet of Things. It surveys the 'state of the art' in these various domains and critically reports on key new practices. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate where and how to research nascent forms of media that are not yet established in the canon 2. Evaluate new, emerging and experimental forms of media 3. Report on key trends in multimedia 4. Situate emerging media forms and trends with regard to contemporary commercial, social, and artistic uses 5. Critically assess and relate the impact of emerging media on established forms 6. Learning Activities LecturesLectures by staff who specialise in an area of emerging media. Frameless (360) video; attention, immersion and narrative. Spatial audio; audience and experience. eLearning; interaction, innovation and user experience. Still and moving image: art contexts, trends and multimedia contexts. Physical computing: data, networks and narrative.
