Description

Students in this module will produce original journalism on selected public affairs topics, or sports journalism topics. The year-long module will be delivered in two forms. The first, delivered in semester one, is an immersion project where students will deep dive into a complex current affairs topic. This form of delivery emulates a weekly or monthly media outlet. Working in teams and under the guidance of expert faculty, students will work together to produce deeply-reported pieces on that topic, in different journalism genres, across various platforms. The end result will be a series of high-quality content suitable for publication or broadcast. The second form of delivery comes in semester two. Then, the module will emulate a daily newsroom. Each student will have a role, as news editors, sub-editors, and reporters who must work together to produce stories under tight deadline pressures over an ten-hour day. As students undertake this advanced reporting, they will work under the close guidance of staff members and guest journalists.
