Description

This module will consider the relationship between theory and practice in Religious Education and the Elective area. It considers the relationship between teacher, learner and content with a particular focus on the post primary school. It focuses on differentiation and considers the impact of diversity in the classroom by focusing on students with additional learning needs. The module examines the application of a range of methods to the teaching of Religious Education and the Elective. It provides students students with the opportunity to integrate and apply what they have learned in the course of this module to a specific teaching context.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of key themes and concepts in Religious Education and the Elective (English, History or Music) at post-primary level.
2. Demonstrate the appropriate professional skills necessary to investigate and research suitable content for Religious Education and the Elective.
3. Demonstrate a critical understanding of differentiation and be able to apply this understanding to designing, planning and adapting teaching/learning/assessment activities that suit a diverse range of learners.
4. Evaluate, using internal and external criteria, a range of teaching methodologies for Religious Education and the Elective.
5. Organise and communicate their research in the design and planning of appropriate content and resources for teaching Religious Education and the Elective at post-primary level.
6. Demonstrate an awareness of the diverse needs of learners, particularly students with additional learning needs, and be able to adapt teaching/learning/assessment methodologies to address these needs.
