Description

This module, taught through French, aims to develop students’ language competence and fluency in written and spoken production at an upper intermediate level. Students will moreover encounter a variety of contemporary texts as well as a range of audio-visual sources in order to develop reading and listening comprehension. Awareness and knowledge of current affairs, culture and society in French-speaking countries are further consolidated. Moreover, teamwork and oral presentation skills are practiced throughout the semester.

Learning Outcomes

1. Express him/herself clearly and coherently in writing on familiar topics, and show his/her awareness of a variety of text type conventions, such as personal email, blog entry, report etc.
2. Understand main points from authentic textual and audio-visual sources in French on chosen topics.
3. Clearly communicate orally on topics beyond those relating to his/her immediate personal experience, such as current affairs and cultural production of the French-speaking countries, and provide arguments and examples supporting their point of view.
4. Demonstrate a degree of control of some advanced grammar; draw on relevant and appropriate vocabulary to express him/herself on topics concerning French-speaking culture, current affairs, and related topics.
5. Make effective use of digital tools and resources for language learning and language use (spoken and written), including searching and retrieving relevant and reliable information.
