Description

This module aims to enable student teachers to design and deliver creative, student-centred lessons aimed at fostering creativity and innovation in the post primary classroom. The module explores a range of Digital Media, Drama and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Learning strategies designed to enhance teacher creativity and develop professional practice. The purpose of the module is to provide a learning environment in which students experience the use of drama techniques, digital technologies and linguistically responsive strategies to enable them as teachers to make effective use of these tools and strategies in their professional practice. Drawing on theories from the fields of creativity and linguistic diversity in education, the module examines concepts and perceptions of creativity, the principles and conditions underpinning creative learning environments and the practices and processes that promote creative and critical thinking, encourage student voice and recognise the linguistic and cultural heritage of learners. The module prepares student teachers for culturally diverse classrooms, and equips them to simultaneously address the needs of both native and non-native speakers of the language of instruction in the post-primary classroom. Delivered through a series of lectures and workshops, the module is practical in nature and provides student teachers with a bank of useful techniques, activities and strategies to make post-primary curricular subjects more accessible for their students. Participants will gain an understanding of and critically reflect on the relevant theories and principles which underpin the techniques and strategies which are explored in the module.
