Description This module aims to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the essential aspects of the Japanese language. Students will be familiarised with a range of everyday situations requiring the use of specified linguistic skills. Students will be guided in the development of a range of language learning strategies and transferable skills, such as independent learning. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus, reference lists and timetables. 2. Pick out and reproduce key words and phrases or short sentences from a short text within the learner’s limited competence and experience 3. Use some simple structures correctly, but still systematically make basic mistakes – for example tend to mix up tenses and forget to mark agreement; nevertheless, it is usually clear what he/she is trying to say. 4. Use sufficient vocabulary to conduct routine, everyday transactions involving familiar situations and topics, including a minimum of 350 kanji. 5. LO5 Use basic sentence patterns and communicate using memorised phrases, groups of words and formulae about themselves and other people, what they do, places, possessions etc. 6. Use basic sentence patterns to describe plans and arrangements, daily habits and routines, past activities and personal experiences, living and working conditions, likes and dislikes. 7. Use IT skills in Japanese, where IT literacy skills will include word processing, web search, and accessing language-specific resources (Life-long Learning) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Students will engage in reception, production and interactive activities, designed to build their confidence and provide them with appropriate linguistic competencies.
