Description

What are International Organisations (IOs) and what role do they play in world politics? This course will set out to answer these questions by introducing students to the history and functioning of contemporary IOs including the UN, the WTO, the IMF and a number of regional organisations.

Learning Outcomes

1. Identify the roles and responsibilities of different international organisations
2. Understand the functioning of the UN Security Council
3. Understand the functioning and policy-making processes of key international organisations
4. Understand the role of different actors (e.g. international organisations, civil society, social movements) in dealing with key issues of global politics
