Learning Outcomes 1. Communicate a fundamental knowledge of how poetry's word-music is generated 2. Show an understanding of the other dimensions of poetry's sensory appeal 3. Analyse the formal resources of poetry 4. Show a problematic understanding of the role of the poet in culture, and be alert to the power of a poetic persona 5. Learning Activities Word-MusicThrough reading a range of poems, students will learn how rhythm and meter shape the music of poetryThe ImageHow poetry creates an image, and constructs a sense of sight. Other aspects of poetry's sensory capabilities will also be explored.Identifying and differentiating Poetic FormsStudents will explore poetic form and sub-genreThe PoetHow poets perform, sometimes through the creation of a distinct poetic persona.
