Description This module aims to inform students of the legal structures and mechanisms that underlie International and Regional Trade. The module provides an insight into the aim, function and organisation of the WTO. Students will examine major trends in international trade and the role of the WTO, including trade liberalisation. Students will be able to critically assess how international trade law impacts on the right to sustainable development, international environmental protection, international human rights, and the exploitation of natural resources. The knowledge gained in this module will be a platform for the analysis of international legislation and state practice. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Analyse the structure and functioning of the WTO 2. Critique the main principles and rules of the WTO and regional trade systems 3. Examine the relationship between international trade law and other areas of law including international human rights law, labour law, environmental law 4. Appraise and debate the impact of the international trade law regime on States and non-State actors, such as Multinational Corporations, with reference to relevant legal provisions and academic commentary | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
