Description The module introduces students to the wide range of material forming type manufacturing processes which are currently used in manufacturing industry (forging, rolling, bending, piercing, extrusion, drawing, welding). The module will develop an understanding of and a capacity to select the optimum manufacturing process for the production of products. This will be achieved by developing a working knowledge and understanding of the factors involved in the operation of each manufacturing process using analytical equations. Students are expected to attend and contribute to lectures and tutorials, engage in assignments through both online and class room delivery.
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate a solid grounding in analytical techniques used to determine the forces and stresses involved in manufacturing processes such as; Forging, rolling, bending, piercing and punching, drawing and extrusion 2. Apply analysis to metal forming processes such as welding and related processes 3. To combine all of the analytical calculations into one large manufacturing design for the production of engineering components in terms of a project assignment, writen and submitted individually.
