Description
This module aims to provide a broad overview of the benefits of psychosocial supports in the contexts of healthcare settings and community settings in Ireland, over the life course. Issues affecting children, adults and the elderly will be explored. Each week a 2-hour lecture will be provided on the topics below.
In the first part of the module, we will look at the core values and competencies required to provide effective and safe psychosocial support to service users, patients and families. The importance of assessment, advocacy and evaluation will be central to the students learning.
The second part of the module will consist of practical examples of psychosocial support over a range of areas of work such as disability services, probation services and child protection services these examples encompass services users of all ages from childhood to old age. There will also be a focus on child friendly approaches to care, interdisciplinary working, and professional development.
