Description The module aims to provide students with evidence-based knowledge and skills specific to health promotion, protection and disease prevention at a population level. Students will be given the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in their own practice placement as part of this module. The module will equip students with competencies relevant to the practice of public health, including health promotion, protection and disease prevention in public health practice. As part of the module students will take into account populations with reduced cognitive ability/those experiencing cognitive deficits. Healthy Ireland, the principles of Sláintecare and the MECC project will be considered in the modules. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge in measuring population health and have a high level of awareness of the strengths and limitations of the various epidemiological methods. 2. Critically analyse the key population health challenges nationally and internationally 3. Critically evaluate health promotion/health protection/disease prevention interventions 4. Critically reflect on ethical issues and UN Sustainable Development Goals as they relate to population health and identify how they can be addressed in public health practice | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
