Description

The module aims to provide students with opportunities to develop their public health practice through the application of newly acquired knowledge and understanding of health promotion, health protection, disease prevention and infection prevention and control. The module will assist students in applying knowledge and further developing their competencies relevant to public health practice and to the Nursing and Midwifery Board in Ireland (NMBI) Domains of Competence. Students must be working in an area of practice which allows them to gain experience in the key areas of this specialism: disease prevention, health promotion, health protection and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

Learning Outcomes

1. Integrate specialist knowledge in public health, including health promotion, health protection, disease prevention and IPC into their own practice
2. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domains of Competence- Professional values and conduct of the nurse competences
3. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domain of Competence- Nursing practice and clinical decision making competences
4. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domain of Competence- Knowledge and cognitive competences
5. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domain of Competence- Communication and interpersonal competences
6. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domain of Competence- Management and team competences
7. Demonstrate competence in NMBI Domain of Competence- Leadership potential and professional scholarship competences
