Description This module is conducted predominantly through Spanish. Throughout the course, students will perform individual and collaborative tasks to build on students’ existing knowledge of Spanish at an intermediate level, emphasising intercultural competence, oral and written skills. It seeks to develop students’ ability to function effectively across cultures, think and act appropriately, and communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Show intercultural awareness by contrasting cultural behaviours and values. 2. Demonstrate ability to function efficiently across cultures, communicating and acting appropriately in different intercultural activities. 3. Communicate orally on personal opinions and cultural topics using suitable language registers and structures within a good degree of correctness and fluency. 4. Participate in intercultural group discussions adequately. 5. Express him/herself coherently in writing on both familiar topics and some beyond his/her personal experience, and show awareness of some text type conventions, such as personal email, blog entry, news article, etc. 6. Prepare, discuss and deliver interactively several collaborative multimodal productions in the target language using lexical and grammatical features that are adequate to express thoughts about cultural topics and to describe experiences, feelings and events in some detail. 7. Learning Activities Indicative Content and Learning ActivitiesThe course is conducted predominantly in Spanish. Tasks include the development of the student’s intercultural competence, critical thinking and the ability to express opinions through spoken and written interaction. The classroom sessions are interactive and learner-centered. Students will work on individual and collaborative tasks. These can include but are not limited to: role-plays, interviews, mini-dialogues, cultural exercises, etc. In this module, students will also enhance their capacity to reflect on their learning experience and outcomes to become ‘better’ language learners. Students will engage in group or peer projects designed to foster intercultural competence development and autonomous language use. Support materials and independent learning activities will assist them in further developing their language skills. Students are expected to attend and contribute to all sessions. The material used in this module corresponds to the Intermediate level from the Common European Framework of Reference. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
