Description This module aims to foster students' interest in and curiosity for both the Spanish language and culture. It is conducted entirely through the target language and pitched at intermediate level. Students will increase their language awareness and develop their communicative competence in Spanish through analysis of a wide range of linguistic structures and functions. The module's focus on social and cultural themes exposes students to a variety of text types, registers, media and viewpoints and consolidates productive, receptive, interactive and intercultural skills. The module builds learners' confidence in the accurate use of specific linguistic features and also assists learners in the effective setting of learning goals, planning of learning, learner autonomy and time management. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Engage with multimodal texts dealing with familiar and contemporary topics to find/understand relevant information such as the main idea and other significant details. 2. Produce cohesive written texts (creative, factual, formal, informal, etc.) in Spanish on personal, social and cultural themes with accurate use of Spanish grammar and theme-specific vocabulary. 3. Communicate orally using simple interconnected sentences in both pre-planned and spontaneous situations being able to describe, narrate and formulate opinions. 4. Apply knowledge and control of the language system by completing a number of tasks at text and sentence level. 5. Demonstrate reflective and critical thinking and intercultural awareness on the tasks carried out individually or as part of a working group. 6. Indicative Content and
Learning Activities OverviewThis module will involve a combination of synchronous meetings and asynchronous activities in which students both as a class and in small groups will engage in communicative practice. Specific individual and group activities are required to be completed in a timely manner to maximize learning and to consolidate and elaborate on the material covered.Language and cultural contentStudents will engage in a variety of comprehension, production and interaction activities, both individually and collaboratively to develop their proficiency in the target language. Students will work on the use of grammar and vocabulary in context and explore essential notions about the target cultures as they arise in the context of the selected themes.Work formatCoursework involves individual and pair/group work to complete comprehension, production and interaction tasks. Students will need to communicate with classmates in order to complete group tasks and assignments.Beyond the classroomStudents are expected to take responsibility for their own language learning by looking for language learning opportunities and engaging in language practice outside the class. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
