Description This module introduces the student to the unit operation concept in the context of modern bioprocessing systems.
Learning Outcomes 1. Formulate and solve design and analysis equations for dead-end and crossflow membrane filtration systems. 2. Formulate and solve design and analysis equations for diafiltration processes 3. Formulate and solve design and analysis equations for particle separation processes based on gravitational and centrifugal forces. 4. Formulate and solve design and analysis equations for drying, evaporation and crystallisation. 5. Use Excel to solve non-linear algebraic equations that arise in the analysis of separation processes.
