Description This module is conducted entirely through German and aims to develop students’ language competencies and fluency in written and spoken production at an intermediate level. Students will encounter a variety of literary and non-literary texts as well as a range of audio-visual resources in order to develop reading and listening comprehension. Awareness and knowledge of culture and society in German countries are further consolidated. Moreover, teamwork and collaboration will be developed throughout participation on different projects during the semester. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Understand main points in stories and other narratives from authentic textual and audio-visual sources on selected topics made for a wider audience. 2. Communicate reasonably confident orally on both familiar topics and some beyond their immediate personal experience,such as societal developments and cultural production in the German-speaking countries. Express their own points of views on these matters, provided that the interlocutor makes an effort to support understanding. 3. Express him/herself coherently in simple writing on both familiar topics and some beyond his/her immediate personal experience, and show awareness of text type conventions and sociolinguistic appropriateness in a variety of texts such as personal email, online written interactions, reports, news articles etc. 4. Demonstrate a good understanding of intermediate language and structure in order to communicate efficiently in a variety of contexts. Draw on relevant and appropriate vocabulary to express him-herself on topics concerning German-speaking culture, popular culture, and related topics, being able to use communicative strategies, e.g some circumlocutions, to convey the intended message. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of intercultural differences and on how behaviour in various types of social interactions in different cultures may convey a message different to the one he/she intends. 6. Make effective use of digital tools and resources for language learning and language use (spoken and written) including searching and retrieving relevant and reliable information. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
