Description A History of Northern Ireland, 1912-98 examines the evolution of Northern Ireland from its conception during the Third Home Rule Crisis in 1912-14 to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key issues, events and themes in the history of Northern Ireland. 2. Identify and assess different historiographical approaches to and interpretations of the history of Northern Ireland. 3. Interrogate primary source documents related to the history of Northern Ireland. 4. Present a reasoned argument based on historical evidence in writing. 5. Learning Activities Indicative Content and Learning ActivitiesThis module examines the evolution of Northern Ireland from its conception during the Third Home Rule Crisis in 1912-14 to the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. It covers political, social, economic and cultural aspects of Northern Ireland’s history, taking nationalist, unionist and other perspectives into consideration. The first section of the module examines the history of Northern Ireland chronologically while the final section examines the themes of gender, political ideologies and cultural traditions in Northern Ireland. Students will attend lectures and complete assigned readings, online quizzes and a final written exam. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
