Description This module enables students to gain practical experience in promoting historical research. They work collaboratively to organise and participate in an event at which student research papers are presented. Under the supervision of the module coordinator, students will be responsible for organising a one-day symposium on MA student research. This will include drafting a call for papers, submitting abstracts for papers, grouping abstracts into coherent sessions, producing a symposium programme and abstract booklet, chairing sessions, presenting research papers, engaging in critical conversation about the papers, and promoting the event online. Students also engage with and critique examples of how public history is promoted through exhibitions, documentaries, tours, websites, etc. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. LO1: Plan, organise and publicise an event to promote historical research. 2. LO2: Work collaboratively as part of an organisational team and independently as an emerging historian presenting research findings. 3. LO3: Summarise the content of their proposed research paper in an abstract. 4. LO4: Make an oral presentation of their research paper illustrated by PowerPoint slides. 5. LO5: Enhance their ability to present research findings to an audience of their peers. 6. LO6: Engage in supportive critical discussion of, and reflection upon, historical research. 7.
