Description This module is for learners of Japanese who have some very basic knowledge of the language and culture of Japan. The module will enable students to further develop their language competence and cultural awareness in matters of personal relevance and everyday transactions. It will also introduce them to a larger number of kanji characters and kanji-written words as part of their vocabulary learning. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Understand a variety of texts that follow a predictable pattern such as advertisements, menus, prospectus, reference list and timetables 2. Demonstrate effective oral skills in a range of social situations such as talking about your daily routine, food, shopping. 3. Produce simple texts in writing using more kanji characters on matters of personal relevance using simple words and basic expressions. Also, engage in basic social communication online (e.g. writing a simple message on a virtual card for a special occasion). 4. Develop your understanding and control of the basic language system by completing a number of tasks. Errors still occur, but students are more aware of them. 5. Show awareness of social and cultural similarities and differences between Ireland and Japan. 6. Use IT skills to access language-specific-resources in Japanese that lead to independent learning (life-long learning). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
