Description This module gives the students an introduction to the basic principles of bioprocess engineering with particular emphasis on developing problem solving skills, particularly basic computational skills and the ability to carry out mass and energy balances in reacting and non-reacting systems.
Learning Outcomes 1. Carry out simple algebraic, numerical and calculus-based calculations relevant to bioprocess engineering. 2. Perform simple calculations using the laws of thermodynamics, the ideal gas equation and the principle of chemical equilibrium. 3. Formulate and solve mass and energy balances for reacting and non-reacting bioprocess systems.
