Description

The purpose of the module is to enable participants to appreciate the role of their government in supporting the development of a knowledge society, and to participate in the development and implementation of related public policies. Potential applications of ICT in key areas like health, tourism, agriculture, education, and e-commerce will be explored.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand the roles their governments are playing currently, and should play in the future, in order to develop an enabling environment for KS development
2. Acquire an overview of e-government applications in government and society and analyse them
3. Identify the economic and social benefits of the application of ICTs in specific economic and development areas
4. Reflect on their own role as leaders, and their organisation’s role in the advancement of the KS in their countries and regions.

• Critical areas of government interventions for the development of a knowledge society adapted to their respective national contexts

E-Government action
• E-Government areas of action, how e-government can help their countries to achieve economic and social benefits, and to set realistic goals in accordance with their respective social, economic, and technological contexts

ICT applications
• ICT applications in the areas of health, education, business, etc.
