Description

The purpose of this module is to provide an overview of the various innovative technologies in computing. There will be seminars on innovative technologies being researched activities by lecturers and researchers in the School of Computing and other Schools. Students are expected to participate in a variety of innovative teaching approaches and activities throughout the semester and will apply knowledge gained in a variety of formats.

Learning Outcomes

1. Explain innovative technologies being researched in the university and industry.
2. Produce an output in a group the shows their understanding of innovative and disruptive technologies.
3. Evaluate the societal, personal and psychological impacts of innovative and disruptive technologies.
4. Analyse the potential impact of innovative and disruptive technologies.
5. Develop an artefact that demonstrates an understanding of innovative and disruptive technologies.

Resit arrangements are explained by the following categories;
RC1: A resit is available for both* components of the module.
RC2: No resit is available for a 100% coursework module.
RC3: No resit is available for the coursework component where there is a coursework and summative examination element.

* ‘Both’ is used in the context of the module having a coursework/summative examination split; where the module is 100% coursework, there will also be a resit of the assessment

An overview of Educational Technologies and how Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) can impact education. This will look at both formal and informal learning at different stages of education.

Industry-led topics
Industry speakers will share information on innovative technologies in their field.

Research Centre-led topic
Speakers from different research centres will provide insights into the innovative technologies they are currently researching.
