Description

This module will prepare the student to manage acute injuries and illnesses. This will include surveying the scene, conducting an assessment, activating the emergency plan, implementing appropriate emergency techniques and procedures and implementing appropriate first aid techniques.

Learning Outcomes

1. LO1 Understand the pre-hospital care continuum in Ireland.
2. LO2 Demonstrate appropriate emergency care assessments
3. LO3 Demonstrate appropriate emergency care techniques for a range of illnesses and injuries in the acute setting.

Emergency care action plan
Developing an emergency care action plan

Primary and secondary survey and subsequent management for adults and children
Appropriate assessment and management of airway and breathing, appropriate assessment and management of cardiac and circulatory issues (including CPR, AED use, administration of aspirin)

Appropriate assessment and management of cardiac and circulatory issues
CPR, AED use, administration of aspirin

Appropriate assessment and management of general medical emergencies
decompression Illness, Glycaemic Emergency, altered Level of Consciousness (seizures/stroke)

Appropriate assessment and management of general medical emergencies as a result of trauma
