Description

Pléifear sa mhodúl seo le filíocht na Gaeilge idir shean agus nua. Breathnófar ar théamaí éagsúla a thagann chun cinn san fhilíocht (m.sh. tábhacht na háite, grá agus caidreamh daonna) agus cuirfear béim faoi leith ar an nuafhilíocht agus ar amhráin mar fhilíocht. Is é cuspóir an mhodúil ná tuiscint na mac léinn ar fhilíocht Ghaeilge na linne a fhorbairt agus a threisiú i gcomhthéacs amhránaíocht thraidisiúnta na teanga. Is é cur chuige an mhodúil ná mionstaidéar a dhéanamh ar réimse dánta ag féachaint le suim na mac léinn san fhilíocht a mhúscailt, ceisteanna a dhúiseacht ina n-intinn faoi nádúr agus mianach na nuafhilíochta Gaeilge, agus foclóir dioscúrsúil a fhorbairt. Déanfar tuiscint na mac léinn ar chomhthéacs na nuafhilíochta a shaibhriú trí staidéar a dhéanamh ar chomhthéacs, ar thréithe agus ar fheidhm na hamhránaíochta Gaeilge. Déanfar scileanna anailíse na mac léinn a fhorbairt trí staidéar a dhéanamh ar théacsanna éagsúla, idir dhánta agus amhráin. Tabharfar an tuiscint dóibh gur gnéithe dílse de thraidisiún na Gaeilge agus de shaol comhaimseartha na Gaeilge iad an fhilíocht agus an amhránaíocht agus gur minic dlúthbhaint idir shaíocht na Gaeilge agus saothrú na nuafhilíochta mar fheiniméan cultúrtha. Déanfar plé ar shaothar mórfhilí áirithe, m.sh. Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Liam Ó Muirthile agus Colm Breathnach. Cuirfear raon leathan acmhainní foghlama ilmheáin ar fáil do na mic léinn a bheidh bunaithe ar ábhar na léachtaí. Beidh na mic léinn in ann úsáid a bhaint as an ábhar seo a chuirfear ar fáil ar LOOP lena gcuid scileanna éisteachta agus teanga a fhorbairt. / This module will discuss both modern and traditional poetry. It will examine themes such as the importance of place, love and human relationships, arising in the poetry and will place a special emphasis on contemporary poetry and on songs as poetry. The aim of the module is to develop and strengthen the student’s understanding of contemporary Irish-language poetry in the context of Irish-language traditional song. The method used in the module will involve a close study of a series of poems to awaken the student’s interest in poetry and encourage them to ask questions about the nature and substance of Irish-Language contemporary poetry as well as develop a vocabulary for discourse. The module will seek to enrich the student’s understanding of the context of contemporary Irish-language poetry through the study of the context, characteristics and function of Irish-language song (tradition). The module will develop the student’s analytical skills through the study of various texts, including both poems and songs. The students will gain an understanding that both poetry and song are authentic aspects of the Irish-language tradition and of contemporary Irish-language life and there is often a close relationship between the cultural wealth and heritage of Irish and of poetry as a cultural phenomenon. The module will discuss the work of major poets such as Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Liam Ó Muirthile and Colm Breathnach. The module will provide a wide range of multimedia learning resources for the students based on the material covered in lectures. The students will be able to use this material that will be made available to them on LOOP to develop both their listening and language skills.
