Description This module aims to introduce students to the function of translation and interpreting in society and to show the multiple ways in which they have operated historically and continue to operate in the daily life of citizens in the modern world. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the role of translation and/or interpreting at selected moments in history or in selected areas of modern life [Gather relevant information relating to a topic.] 2. Give examples of controversial issues related to translation and/or interpreting at selected moments in history or in selected areas of modern life 3. Demonstrate ways in which translation and/or interpreting can impact on social life in positive or negative ways 4. Compare, contrast, or otherwise relate impacts of translation and/or interpreting on social life [Recognise the value of and engage with cultural diversity] 5. Make judgments informed by assigned readings and course content on controversial issues related to translation and/or interpreting and the adaptation of communication in translation [Draw informed and logical conclusions from information.] 6.
