Module Aims
  • to develop students’ personal language-learning strategies that will enable them to become autonomous language users and learners
  • to consolidate students’ language competence and increase fluency
  • to provide students with an introduction to ideas and movements that have played a significant role in the social, political and cultural evolution of modern Spain


Learning Outcomes

At the end of this module students will be able to demonstrate

 

  • awareness of language-learning strategies
  • ability to listen and read for the gist of written and oral discourse
  • increased confidence in the use of the target language to meet the needs of differing but familiar situations and tasks
  • consolidation of productive and receptive language skills
  • ability to identify the dominant factors in the evolution of modern Spanish society

Indicative Syllabus
  • Spanish grammar and demonstrating understanding of grammar through written/oral production
  • identifying purpose of language tasks, setting goals, self -evaluation
  • listening and reading for gist in relatively complex situations.
  • authentic material (newspaper articles, extracts of  TV news and radio programmes, etc. ) on a variety of themes (especially cultural)
  • survey of cultural, political and social developments in Spain in the modern and contemporary period
