Module Aims

Module Aims:
•To enable students to recognise and evaluate their own learning needs so that they may develop both personally and professionally.
•To introduce the concept of academic writing and facilitate the development of academic writing skills.
•To enable the student to appreciate concepts important in the conduct of nursing.
•To acquire basic skills in the use of information technology.



Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module and following period of personal study students will be able to:

•Recognise their own learning needs and limitations.
•Recognise the variety of information sources which contribute to nursing knowledge.
•Appreciate the importance of communication, accountability and confidentiality in the conduct of effective nursing care.
•Appreciate the principles of stress management.
•Demonstrate an understanding of the basics of Information Technology (IT) in accessing information, communicating and processing documents.
•Demonstrate an understanding of the skills needed for academic writing.

Summary information for Transcript of Training:
 This module provides students with an introduction to skills necessary for personal and professional development.
 Principles of effective study and academic writing are addressed. 
Aspects essential to professional nursing practice (communication, accountability and confidentiality) are included as is appreciation of stressors and stress management. 
This module introduces students to the basics of IT, E-mail and word processing.
