Module Aims:

  • To give students a broad, rigorous introduction to electricity and magnetism.


Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes:

•Knowledge and understanding of the definitions of the basic physical quantities encountered in electricity and magnetism.

•Competence in electrostatics and magnetostatics.

•Competence in the application of kirchoff’s rules to the analysis of electrical circuits.

•Knowledge and understanding of the laws of electromagnetic induction and their applications.

•Competence in the analysis of simple ac circuits, including resonance phenomena and the physics of transformers.

•Appreciation of the unity of electric and magnetic phenomena and their role in the world we live in.
