Module Aims

This module sets the level A2 from the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) as its minimum exit level. It aims to enable students to:

  • Develop lifelong language learning strategies
  • Consolidate language competence and increase fluency in spoken and written interaction through French
  • Increase awareness and knowledge of essential aspects of contemporary and the Francophone world

Acquire transferable skills such as team work, communication and presentation skills through a variety of class activities and assignments



Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module, students will be able to:

  • Understand the main points of clear standard speech related to the various chosen themes
  • Read and understand a variety of texts on these topics and notice differences between Irish and French-speaking cultures
  • Interact more effectively with peers through the practice of role-plays/ class debates/ unprepared conversations on familiar topics
  • Describe orally and in writing an experience, situation or procedure and express an opinion
  • Perform a simple and effective oral presentation
  • Demonstrate improved grammatical awareness and accuracy
  • Reflect on and communicate to others their language learning experience and outcomes

  • In addition to the course material handed out in class, a wide range of authentic electronic/digital resources will be accessible via Moodle (http://moodle.dcu.ie). Students will also be encouraged to research and use authentic materials relevant to their projects and to interact with French native speakers whenever possible.
