Module Aims
|
To offer students an account of the historical development of the mass media and
journalism both internationally and nationally. Moreover the module seeks identify and
discuss the impact of those historically contingent sets of social, political and economic circumstances/forces on the form, function and organisation of the mass media.

Learning Outcomes
|
Students will be able to situate individual media forms/industries into a historic context.
Students will be able to trace the emergence of modern media institutions from their historic roots.
Students will be able to discuss the impact of old media on new media forms.
Students will be able to understand the role of social structure in shaping media forms
