Module Aims
7 To introduce students to the concepts and skills of computation and computer simulation in engineering contexts such as signal processing, control systems and telecommunications. 7 To make students aware of the appropriate use of computation and simulation tools and the power of such tools. 7 To provide experience in the use of general purpose computational environments for analysis and simulation of systems in a range of engineering applications. Targetted environments include Matlab, Simulink, Opnet and C. 7 To give students applications experience in computation and simulation for signal processing, control systems manufacturing systems and telecommunications.

Learning Outcomes
7 The student is familiar with a set of core engineering computational approaches and methodologies and how these are applied to a range of engineering problems. 7 The student is familiar with a set of engineering computation environments and how these are applied to a range of engineering problems. 7 The student knows how to use software tools to solve engineering computation and simulation problems as a part of an overall system modelling or design process. 7 The student has experience in the use of general purpose software tools for visualization of complex systems in engineering applications. 7 The student has a thorough knowledge of the limitations and pitfalls of standard numerical techniques and simulation alone as an analysis tool.
