Module Aims
|
7 To provide the student with an introduction to basic principles of linear control systems.
7 To understand the purpose of feedback control.
7 To understand the concept of stability and the methods used to determine stability level in closed loop systems.

Learning Outcomes
|
Having successfully completed this module the students will:
7 Understand the fundamentals of control systems and their importance.
7 Identify the basic components of control systems and system types.
7 Be familiar with the advantages and disadvantages of open and closed loop systems
7 Be able to analyse and design feedback systems
7 Understand the concept of stability..
7 Be capable of analysing systems using root locus techniques
7 Be familiar with Nyquist and Bode frequency analysis techniques.

Indicative Syllabus
|
¿ Open and Closed Loop systems.
¿ Modelling of physical systems
¿ Laplace transform and transfer functions.
¿ Dynamic behaviour of second order systems.
¿ Feedback systems analysis: stability analysis, time domain, frequency domain, steady state error.
¿ Feedback system design: root locus diagram; proportional, integral, derivation of rate feedback control; phase compensation.
¿ Use of Bode and Nyquist techniques for control system analysis.
