Description This module sets the level A2-B1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as its minimum exit level. It aims to introduce students to lifelong language learning strategies and to develop their capacity to communicate with peers in a social and/or academic context. It thus aims to develop their confidence and competence in spoken and written interaction through the medium of French, as well as their comprehension skills, while also increasing learner autonomy. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Express personal opinions in written form using suitable language register and structures 2. Demonstrate knowledge of the different French media platforms dealing with current affairs and demonstrate aural listening skills specific to a topical issue 3. Perform simple and effective oral presentations supported by good quality audiovisual aids 4. Debate and discuss in a round table format in the target language matters of contemporary interest to university students 5. Demonstrate an ability to employ correct forms of the past tenses, as well as the imperative and subjunctive moods, in context. Indicative Content and
Learning Activities The syllabus adopts a project and task-based approach and is organised around action-reflection cyclesStudents will engage in group and/or individual projects designed to foster the development of learner autonomy and autonomous language use. These projects will enable students to build on skills in written and oral expression. They will constitute the basis for the Continuous Assessment the elements of which may include, but are not limited to: giving and responding to instructions, production of a slideshow and audio commentary, producing a newsletter or instruction manual, organising a round table discussion etc. At the end of the semester students will be helped to reflect on the task they have just completed and on its outcomes. The End of Semester Assessment will require students to demonstrate evidence of the grammatical knowledge and vocabulary consolidated or acquired during the semester. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
