Description

This module introduces students to aquatic activities, through theory and practice, to prepare students to teach aquatics at junior and senior cycle physical education. Students will explore appropriate strategies for teaching and coaching, thus preparing students for teaching practice and familiarising them with the post-primary physical education curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe the role of aquatics, its' relevant activites, and how they contribute to post-primary physical education curricula
2. Describe the aquatics content of the post-primary physical education curriculum and be able to compare the content with relevent international curricula
3. Analyse aquatic performance to allow for teaching of optimal technique based on individual ability
4. Demonstrate the pedagogical skills necessary for effective teaching and learning in aquatics
5. Demonstrate the following transferable skills: organisational skills, observational skills, leadership skills and communication skills
6. Devise appropraite lesson plans related to ability that allow for progression
