Description

This module sets the level B1.1 from the Common European Framework of Reference as its minimum exit level. It aims to enable students to apply actively the language skills and knowledge required at B1.1/Intermediate level (including those developed in complementary modules such as GE130) in the production of collaborative, creative pieces that relate to the target cultures (e.g. Presentations, Sketche, Kurzgeschichten, Kurzfilme). It also focuses on the critical reading of authentic materials from a variety of genres in order to enhance (inter)cultural understanding and language awareness and to develop information retrieval skills. Audio-visual materials are also used. Students will be guided in the use of group work, (DaF)language learning strategies and transferable skills. Ge140 requires that students attend at least 80% of lectures. Where a student fails to do so, and in the absence of documentation to support extenuating circumstances, s/he will be required to present for a meeting with the Programme Chair, SALIS Teaching Convenor and/ or Module Coordinator in advance of attempting examinations/ assessments and/ or submitting coursework.'
