Description This module is entirely conducted through French. It aims to enhance students' digital literacies so that they can fully take part in French-speaking online communities in a responsible, ethical and safe manner. Students will engage in digital production and online interaction activities. Students will also develop their ability to express thoughts about cultural topics/artefacts and to describe experiences, feelings and events in some detail, orally and in writing. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Collaboratively create, mix, re-mix, and share digital artefacts under a Creative Commons License and through the medium of French. 2. Sustain an active participation in an online community of learners of French by producing relevant posts and comments, sharing files and resources, etc.. Behave ethically in online communities while managing online identity and privacy issues through French. 3. Describe in French, orally and/or in writing, events, real or imagined, and give detailed accounts of experiences, feelings, reactions. Report orally and/or in writing reasonably fluently about a variety of subjects, presenting it as a linear sequence of points. 4. Write and publish original posts and comments, in French, asking for or conveying simple information of immediate relevance, getting across the point he/she feels to be important and explaining problems with reasonable precision. 5. Draw on French lexical and grammatical features that are adequate to express thoughts about cultural topics/artefacts and to describe experiences, feelings and events in some detail. 6. Indicative Content and
Learning Activities OverviewThis project and task-based course is conducted through French and is divided into two units of learning (2 per semester): Unit 1 - Storytelling: collaborative creating of a tale/story and productions of a mulitmodal artefact (i.e. using audio, sound, images, text); Unit 2 - Digital practices and culture among young people from French-speaking countries. In each unit, students will work towards the creation of texts (written, spoken or both), which will be formally assessed.Language practiceIn the context of each unit of learning, students will engage, individually and collaboratively, in reception, production and interaction activities, face-to-face on online, designed to build their confidence and to consolidate/enhance the linguistic knowledge (e.g. vocabulary, phonology, sentence structure and function of words and groups of words, agreement system in French etc.) and competencies that will enable them to function at a B1.1 level orally and in writing. They will also extensively practise a broad range of strategies to increase their writing and speaking skills.Digital literacies for language learning and language useStudents will learn how to create, mix and re-mix, share and publish digital objects and to participate fully in online French-speaking communities in a responsible, ethical and safe manner. They will continue to make effective use of online dictionaries and varied language resources to increase their language competencies. They will also continue to consolidate their computer skills, with a particular focus on using Web 2.0 applications to communicate with others.Lifelong learning skillsStudents will engage in guided individual and collaborative activities that will assist them in taking responsibility for their own learning and in developing effective language learning strategies. They will reflect on their language learning experience and outcomes.Module ResouurcesThis module does not have any book resources. Various resources will be recommended by the lecturer and peers in due course.
