Description The purpose of the module is to build students' translation competence for a variety of text types and contexts from the domain of economics, with French as a source language and English as a target language. Students are expected to attend lectures, work individually and in teams on translation and contribute to discussions in the class and, where applicable, online. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate advanced translation strategies for a variety of text types within the domain of economics and from French as a source language into English as a target language. 2. Create native-speaker, domain-specialist level target language texts, which are fluent and accurate translations of the source text. 3. Work under pressure of time to create advanced translations using a computer and an array of online and hard-copy resources. 4. Indicative Content and
Learning Activities Current economic topicsStudents will be expected to translate texts from French into English on current economic topics, such as stock market activity, European economic policy/debates, property market etc.ReadingStudents will be expected to read, in both French and especially English, texts pertaining to economics in general in order to (a) increase their understanding of current economic topics and (b) improve their ability to produce appropriate text types and registers.ResearchStudents will be expected to research bi-lingual terminology, concepts, definitions etc, using both online and hard-copy materials.Electronic File HandlingStudents will be expected to produce and manage versions of their translations in electronic format. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
