Description

This module enables students to study the way in which children’s spiritual, moral and religious development shapes the experience of religious education. Students will study research in the psychology of religion, children’s spirituality and faith development theory that enrich their understanding of children’s participation in religious education. Students will build on the professional expertise gained in year one to develop a sense of creativity and innovation in their religious education practice. The Role of ICT in religious education practice will be explored. They will explore the Catholic approach to moral education in light of Christian ethics and international research in children’s moral development.

Learning Outcomes

1. Explore research on the psychological and spiritual development of children and how it applies to the Catholic religious education curriculum.
2. Identify distinguishing features and methodologies of the new Grow in Love third and fourth-class programmes.
3. Explore the Catholic approach to moral education and distinguish Catholic moral education from secular ethical approaches.
4. Explore approaches to Catholic moral education from the Christian Morality strand of the religious education curriculum.
5. Construct Progressional schemes of work in Catholic religious education.
6. Explore the use of ICT in primary religious education.
