Description

This module introduces the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation from the perspective of individuals, firms, industries and countries; it describes the challenges individuals and firms face in pursuing entrepreneurship and innovation; it identifies factors associated with success in entrepreneurship and innovation; and it explores the outcomes of entrepreneurship and innovation, including firm growth. These issues are explored in contexts such as new businesses, small- and medium sized enterprises, high growth firms, high-tech firms, and rapidly internationalizing firms. The module introduces different perspectives, theories and research underpinning entrepreneurship and innovation. In particular the module: •Provides an understanding of the different approaches to the management of entrepreneurship and innovation. •Reviews challenges and success factors in entrepreneurship and innovation. •Introduces a variety of models and tools to support innovation (such as the innovation value chain).

Learning Outcomes

1. Summarise the factors associated with success in entrepreneurship and innovation.
2. Discuss the factors that explain the growth of businesses.
3. Identify and explain the strategies, skills and systems necessary for innovation.
4. Develop a growth strategy and an innovation strategy.
5. Develop a critical awareness of the role of entrepreneurship and innovation as a key source of competitive advantage and growth.
