Description The module provides a framework for students to develop practical and communication skills. It also provides students with the experience of working in teams and highlights the benefit of good project planning. Learning Outcomes 1. Solve a practical engineering problem using basic scientific knowledge. 2. Use IT skills and software to source information, write technical reports, and make presentations. 3. Read and construct engineering drawings to a high standard. 4. Plan and complete a project on time. 5. Work effectively within a team to achieve a desired objective. 6. Indicative Content and
Learning Activities Team ProjectA team of 3 students must design and build a remote control device to compete in a competition at the end of semester 2. Student's communication, design, and fabrication skills are developed throughout semester 1 and 2. The syllabus covers; presentation using power point, poster presentation, drawing and E-Cad, project planning, metal fabrication, electronic assembly, report writing, engineering ethics and care of the environment.Engineering DrawingLectures and studio sessions presenting and practicing engineering drawing. Reading engineering drawings; common drawing standards, line styles, sectioning, dimensioning, threads etc. Drawing components in first and third angle orthographic projection and sketching an object using pictorial representations (isometric, oblique and/or perspective) Using engineering drawing as a means of communication of engineering ideas and/or designs. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
