Description

This module will focus on developing students' vocabulary range and mastery of grammatical structures and functions in English at CEF level C1+ and C2 so that they can communicate with a very high degree of precision, accuracy and ease in even the most complex and sensitive situations. There will also be a focus on all four language skills so that students can operate to a very high degree of sophistication and fluency in their use of English, using English with due attention to appropriacy and register. Minimum exit level for this module is C1(CEFR)

Learning Outcomes

1. convey finer shades of meaning precisely and accurately for social, academic and professional purposes
2. identify and use a range of cultural allusions and idiomatic expressions
3. employ a range of reading and listening strategies in order to fully understand the finer points of arguments and opinions contained in complex written and oral texts with relative ease
4. demonstrate an ability to manage collocational and connotative features of language effectively
5. identify and adopt a variety of stylistic features of language appropriate to a particular language register and genre
6. manage, interpret and create meaning using a variety of digital devices and tools
