Description

The purpose of the module is to produce a report on State of Knowledge Society in Africa. Each country team will produce a report of Knowledge Society in their country. This module provides participants with opportunities to apply leadership and futures thinking tools to their own country and system contexts. Participants will use the outputs from the core modules on Leadership in the Knowledge Age, Knowledge Society Pillars of Science Technology and Innovation, ICT Infrastructure and Applications and Education in the Knowledge Age to develop a policy coherence roadmap report in Units 1 and 2 of the module. They will produce a report on the theme of Knowledge Society for Africa: Policy Coherence in STI/ICT/Education for their respective countries. The report findings will be presented and further developed in a workshop with a view to informing the development of policy coherence roadmaps for each of the three pillars in each country. Participants will be equipped with practical knowledge and tools to support policy development and implementation for Knowledge Societies.

Learning Outcomes

1. Understand how to develop policies for Knowledge Society development in each of the three pillars and the interrelationships between the pillars
2. Critically analyse policies and strategies and their impacts in their own country and region
3. Produce a Policy Coherence Roadmap to the Knowledge Society for their own country
4. Have a complete picture of the state of knowledge societies in Africa and their developmental pathways
5. Exhibit enhanced research and writing skills
6. Produce an article eligible for publication in State of the Knowledge Society in Africa.
