Description The Irish Revival and Revolution, 1884-1922 explores the connection between the cultural, economic, political and military revival of Ireland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the Irish revolution of c. 1912-22. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. Identify and locate primary historical source material, and access and engage with it in archival and research repository settings. 2. Engage critically with secondary and primary source matter. 3. Comprehend and analyse the context and historiography of the Irish revival and revolution, and evaluate contested interpretations. 4. Deploy appropriate research methods and methodologies, and develop and present reasoned and evidentially supported historical argument, both orally and in writing. 5. Learning Activities Indicative ContentThis module explores the connection between the cultural, economic, political and military revival of Ireland in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the Irish revolution of c. 1912-22. It examines the various organisations and movements that generated this revival and assesses their individual and collective contributions to the Irish revolution. Through a combination of class discussion and the completion of oral and written assignments, students will learn how to identify, locate, interrogate and utilise primary source documents relevant to this period in modern Irish history. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
