Description

After a general introduction, the module looks at study, research, writing and exam skills in detail. topics to be covered include: effective note-taking; use of library; basic internet; research; the ethics of research; grammar and punctuation; introduction to structuring and referencing; exam preparation and practice.

Learning Outcomes

1. Use appropriate writing skills to support and reference an academic argument.
2. have a foundational understanding of the concepts and methods pertaining to theological and educational writing skills.
3. identify his/her own learning needs regarding academic writing skills.
4. develop an informed understanding of the ethical responsibilities involved in academic writing.

Study skills days
Students spend two full days on campus attending lectures, tutorials and groupwork sessions.

Participation in online activities
Students use Moodle and its discussion boards to supplement independent learning, and complete e-tutorials as suggested

Independent learning
Students study prescribed texts and keep informal records (e.g. notes, indexes, learning journals) of their progress in the area of study skills.
