Description this 5 credit module will introduce B.Ed. students to key skills and processes involved in becoming a subject leader in primary school science | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Learning Outcomes 1. critically analyse the primary school science curriculum and related resources 2. apply the processes of whole school planning, including planning for progression and assessment of knowledge and skills 3. demonstrate appropriate knowledge of outside agencies and programmes which support the teaching and learning of science in primary schools 4. identify and discuss some common challenges of coordinating staff and resources within primary school science and be able to suggest possible solutions 5. identify key health and safety issues connected with the teaching of primary science and know how to access appropriate information | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The processes of whole school planning; supporting documents and agencies; concepts of progression. Developing whole school assessment strategies for primary science. Constructivism/IBSE - Innovative teaching approaches- active learning, POE, concept cartoons/maps Role of Science Coordinator – cpd, science policy, planning, teaching learning and assessment. History of primary science in IrelandWhole school science initiativesIntroduction to outside agencies and programmes that promote primary science; planning for special events e.g. science week; coordinating, motivating and involving staff.Practical science, health and safetyIntroduction to key resources and suppliers of primary science equipment.
